Mobile Phones

Mobile phones have become one of the most confusing commodities to buy and get the best deal. Companies change their talk plan options almost daily, and I'm pretty sure its designed to confuse. Any advert that starts.."Our simple to understand talk plan range...." and ends with calling things Racoon...well, you get the point
There is little in network coverage at the moment, and the historic big boys O2 and Vodafone no longer have an advantage.

Things to check when switching or buying for the vist time:

e2save also sell clearance phones (virtually new) with full guarantee. This enables them to discount the talk plans significantly (often as low as 11 free months on a 12 month price plan). They also offer from time to time some pretty attractive Sim only contracts with substantial cash back. They're also part of the Carphone Warehouse, and while some cash back schemes have been a bad reputation, we've found no issues so long as you remember to claim at the right time. They also offer automatic cash back although the deals are not as good. e2Save are simply the best value you can find on the market

Vodafone and other networks often do better deals by buying direct. This is because they cut out much of the cost that the independent retailer charges. 18 month deals are also popular at the moment. The downside is that you have to keep your current phone a little longer - but thats no real hardship with todays phones (unless you're a slave to fashion)

...and of course O2 have the new iPhone. It might not have a great camera. It might not be 3G, but you've got to admit, it does look cool

And remember, you can take your number with you if you change network - just check if you need your PAC code before you switch or you can do it after. You need to check what your NEW network requires, not your old one. Its not a bad idea to ring up and ask for your PAC code anyway - you don't have to use it, and it may just spur them into giving you a better deal.

When selecting handsets, my advice would be to go into a local shop (and even tescos have phones you can pick up and handle), and then reseach with the sites we've suggested to find the best deal.
